Early Career Teacher Entitlement
Registering ECTs with Potentia TSH
The Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE) has been introduced by the DfE to provide support and guidance to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) throughout their first two years of teaching. The framework is structured to further develop ECTs' professional practice through online learning, virtual training and the support of a fully trained mentor.
Potentia Teaching School Hub is working in partnership with Education Development Trust to deliver the Early Career Framework programme. This DfE- funded programme is open to all schools to schools within Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak and North East Derbyshire who have ECTs.
How do I register my ECTs and mentors with Potentia TSH's ECTE Programme?
Registration for Potentia TSH's 2-year ECTE programme is done via the DfE Online Service 'Manage Training for Early Career Teachers'.
Schools with existing ECTs - Register here
If you have an existing ECT, you will already have access to the Gov.uk website. If you do not or would like to tell the service about changes at your school, click HERE .
Schools with new ECTs - Register here
If you are looking to register a new ECT, click HERE to request access to the service.
School must log into this service and complete the associated steps before their ECTs can start their statutory induction programme.
Who do I choose for my Lead Provider and Delivery Partner?
As part of the DfE Registration process, you will be invited to choose a Lead Provider and Delivery Partner for your ECTE programme. To register for Potentia TSH's programme, choose 'Education Development Trust' as the Lead Provider and 'Potentia Teaching School Hub' as the Delivery Partner.
Do I need to register separately with the Lead Provider?
If you are not currently using Education Development Trust (EDT) as your Lead Provider, you should register your interest with EDT on their website so that they can start to create a record for your school.
Do I need to register separately with an Appropriate Body?
As part of the DfE Registration process, you will be asked to say which Appropriate Body you are using for statutory induction. Please note: this does not constitute registration with an Appropriate Body (AB) - you need to register with an AB separately.
Introduction to the Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE)
The ECTE sets out what ECTs are entitled to learn about and what they should learn how to do when they start their careers, focusing on the key areas of: behaviour management; pedagogy; classroom practice; subject knowledge; assessment and questioning; and professional development. It underpins a new statutory entitlement to receive two years of high-quality training and in-school mentor support.
What the ECTE includes
- Two years of new, funded, high-quality training available either as a Full Induction Programme (FIP), Core Induction Programme (CIP) or School-based Induction Programme.
- Funding for 5% time away from the classroom for teachers in their second year.
- A dedicated mentor, with support for these mentors, including access to high-quality training.
- Funding to cover mentors' time with the mentee in the second year of teaching.
- The ECF is not an assessment tool, as ECTs continue to be assessed separately against the Teacher Standards overseen by Appropriate Bodies.
Potentia TSH's ECTE Programme
Potentia TSH provides the DfE Funded Induction Programme (FIP) to schools, in partnership with EDT. Potentia TSH's programme is for all ECTs in all schools, regardless of phase or type, primarily in the 6 Derbyshire Local Authority Districts of Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, North East Derbyshire and High Peak.
Potentia TSH's programme is facilitated by teachers, leaders and educational professionals from schools and organisations within our region.
To ensure geographical accessibility and reduction in travel time, ECTs and Mentors have the option to access training close to their school or setting. We therefore provide training sessions in 3 different locations across Derbyshire.
Funding
The ECTE programme is funded by the DfE, so there are no costs to schools. This is known as the Funded Induction Programme (FIP).
In addition, schools will be funded for:
- Time-off timetable for ECTs and mentors in their second year
- Training delivered directly to ECTs and mentors
- Additional funding to backfill mentor time up to 36 hours
Payment will be received at the end of the second year.
