Within our region, there are a number of other ITT providers who work with our local schools to recruit trainees and provide placements within Derbyshire schools.
For the majority of these organisations who are based outside of Derbyshire, they provide the opportunity for prospective trainees to access their academic input where they are located, whilst being able to train in a Derbyshire school.

Alfreton Nursery ITT
Alfreton Nursery School has been consistently outstanding for over 22 years and was accredited as a National Teaching School in September 2015 in recognition of its hard work and collective drive to constantly raise standards in school. As all Teaching Schools were de-designated in September 2021, Alfreton Nursery School Initial Teacher Training (ITT) now sits at the heart of Potentia Teaching School Hub as Early Years specialists and we look forward to continuing to offer bespoke programmes for all our future teachers.

DTSA
Initial Teacher Training & Education (ITTE) is a course that gives you the skills that schools are looking for in a early career teacher. Accredited by the University of Derby, and working with two placement schools from the local area, the successful completion of the course will lead to the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), 60 credits towards a masters and a Teacher Reference Number (TRN). The course is full time and lasts one year.
DTSA is passionate about providing high quality Initial Teacher Training & Education (ITTE) in a full time school-based setting. This offers you the best possible opportunities to completing your training successfully and become an outstanding teacher. DTSA has strong links with the Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) in the Derbyshire area and is uniquely placed to offer training at Primary level on Science to help with the course content and practical ideas for teaching. This is important in securing a teaching post within the Derby and Derbyshire area because of our strong STEM economy. This comes at no additional cost for our ITTE placements.

Sheffield SCITT
The Sheffield SCITT (school-centred initial teacher training) is one of the largest teacher training providers in South Yorkshire. We offer Primary 3-7, Primary 5-11, Secondary and Assessment Only Teacher Training.
Sheffield SCITT is owned and operated by Notre Dame High School, Sheffield. The primary lead school is St Catherine’s, Sheffield, rated ‘Outstanding’ in it’s recent Ofsted. Our approach is based on what our partnership Headteachers are looking for in their Newly Qualified Teachers. They far prefer teachers who have spent the whole year in school experiencing the full calendar cycle of the school year and being involved in every aspect of the professional teacher’s role in their schools. They find teachers trained by serving outstanding teachers this way are better prepared for the rigours of qualified teaching, and progress more quickly in their careers in their schools. It is their preferred route for recruiting their Early Career Teachers. All of our partner schools, both Primary and Secondary have recruited Early Career Teachers from the Sheffield SCITT. You can choose either a QTS (Qualifies Teacher Status)only route, or opt to study for a masters level PGCE alongside QTS

Learners First Partnership
Learners First is an inclusive, school-led partnership of over 200 schools and academies, covering all phases and a range of geographical areas. Our ITT programme has been developed over a number of years to:
- Offer an authentic and high quality training approach which allows you to be immersed in school life from the start, fully preparing you for life as a full-time teacher.
- Be led, quality assured and delivered by experienced practicing professionals who work in high-performing schools, academies and Multi Academy Trusts.
- Provide mentoring and support from outstanding teachers, who focus on ensuring that you develop your knowledge, skills and professional attributes.
- Give you a different experience in a second placement school with an opportunity to experience another key stage as well as opportunities to explore specialist settings.
- In partnership with our partner Universities, we provide a powerful, bespoke experience to launch your teaching career. We work to ensure that all our trainees have the potential to be outstanding at the end of the programme
- Offer a programme of academic learning and high quality training. You will cover all aspects of education and pedagogy in your training. This is supported by professional development in areas such as managing behaviour, how to prepare, plan and structure lessons, questioning techniques, demonstrating progress and co-operative learning strategies. This is also a fantastic opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues, share good practice and engage in peer coaching.
- As well as securing your QTS, you will achieve a PGCE with credits towards a Masters qualification.
- Offer excellent support, every step of the way from providing advice about funding, to a comprehensive induction process, you will be guided from application to employment.
- A key part of our programme is also helping you to understand how you can achieve a work-life balance and helping you to become a successful – and healthy – member of a school team.
